Christmas in Conakry is like most days in Conakry. Hot. But with my decoupage tree and a string of lights, it was a festive day. I avoided buying the crappy imported super shiny Christmas decorations available in the market and at the Expat shops. It felt too commercial, but in an over the top intolerable kind of way (coming from the US, Christmas is always commercial, but when EVERYTHING is shiny, you just can’t turn the other cheek). Christmas Eve was filled with friends, gifts, chocolate cake and apple pie. Can you ask for much more than that?
I must say that tree is the bomb diggity bom shizzle, fo shiz. Well played.

Thanks! It's even sort of made of wood, so that counts, right?

Hello Sally,
The political situation has calmed for the moment, but legislative elections have not yet been confirmed. When the elections are either canceled or announced, there is the chance for more violence.
