Legislative elections happened Saturday! All was calm, and we hope for the best for the Wednesday results. Check out pictures by Sean, a Peace Corps volunteer at http://www.flickr.com/photos/103548294@N04/sets/72157635974010203/
One of the ‘fun’ things about Guinea is that anything could happen. Literally, anything. A few weeks before the elections and the funding doesn’t seem to be secure? Sure, no problem. The opposition is threatening a protest the day BEFORE the election because they are unhappy with who is registered to vote and who isn’t? Right, that will be fine. We are T minus 6 days to the legislative elections (already pushed back multiple times from 2011), and tensions are rising. I’ve been assured both that ‘everything will be fine’ and that ‘the opposition risks telling their supporters to boycott the vote.’
Time will tell. |
